Executive Director of Special Education and Health Services Rochelle Cox sent a letter to the community
today introducing Harrison Education Center's new leadership team.
August 8, 2016
Dear students, families and staff,
On behalf of the school-based interview team from Harrison and MPS leadership, I am pleased to introduce the new principal and assistant principal of Harrison Education Center.
Nathan Hampton will be Harrison’s new principal. Mr. Hampton comes to this position with a wide breadth and depth of experience in the field of education, including special education. One of his first jobs was helping transition students from Federal Setting IV programs, like Harrison, back to their home schools. His most recent administrative experience has been in Robbinsdale School District, where he oversaw a program focused on improving educational experiences for young, African-American men. When asked about starting his new position at Harrison Education Center, Mr. Hampton shared, “I believe in building strong relationships, promoting student engagement, school spirit and family involvement. I'm looking forward to bringing my skills as an educational leader to Harrison and to working with staff and families as partners in ensuring students’ success.”
Joe Groves will be Harrison’s new assistant principal. He started his career in education as a youth worker in Chicago and, in a few short years, joined Minneapolis Public Schools. Mr. Groves then pursued his teaching certification and taught at Andersen Elementary and Olson Middle schools. For more than seven years, he’s been part of MPS’ Positive School-wide Behavior Team and assisted schools in developing school-wide behavior plans. He is passionate about helping students and staff grow, and he is excited to join Principal Hampton in making great things happen for students at Harrison.
Principal Hampton, Assistant Principal Groves, and the entire Harrison staff are excited to welcome students and families who will be part of the Harrison community this fall. Over the next couple of weeks, there will be opportunities for you to meet Principal Hampton, Assistant Principal Groves and other Harrison staff. The administrative team will be scheduling “Meet and Greet” events and reaching out to students and families through personal phone calls. We are hopeful you will be able to take advantage of these opportunities to build strong partnerships with the new leaders and staff at Harrison.
Please join the MPS community in welcoming Mr. Hampton and Mr. Groves to the Harrison family.
