Principal Edwards

Malvirce (Mal) Edwards began his educational career in the Minneapolis Public School District in 1991 as a high school coach at Minneapolis Edison High School. He spent 10 years coaching within the district before moving towards other professional pursuits but continuing to coach until 2020. Mr. Edwards returned to Minneapolis in 2014 as a support staff in a middle school and began pursuing his administrative licensure. He worked as a Student Educational Intervention Specialist as a part of the equity team in the Anoka Hennepin school district. In 2019, he was named Assistant Principal at Harrison Education Center in Minneapolis for two years. In 2021 in the role of Assistant Principal at South High school.

His educational experiences have afforded him the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of people to meet the common goal of increasing student achievement and well-being. Mr. Edwards’ educational philosophy is based on an uncompromising belief that all students can learn, given a positive learning environment, and a supportive family approach to educating.

Mr. Edwards educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Psychology (Criminal Justice) University of Northwestern, a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Minnesota State University Mankato and a Master’s Specialist degree (K-12 Principal Licensure) from Minnesota State University. By pursuing lifelong learning, he intends to be an example to students and teachers that we should never stop learning. 

Mr. Edwards is excited to be returning to Harrison as the interim principal. I will always be a leader that put students and families first. I am excited about the opportunity to work with the students, families and staff of Harrison.
